HAREDOWN MOUNTAIN BOARDING CENTRE...
In 2000 Farmer John, who had over thirty years experience with dairy cows and crops and none whatsoever in mountain boarding met Ian Mitchell-Innes at the Royal Show at Stoneleigh, which was the annual exhibition for the farming world. Farmer John was half looking for something to diversify in, farming not being what it used to be, and once he had met Ian, tried out the mountain boards, the rest as they say, was history.
We tried three different hills before we decided on the best one of all, its official name is Asted Down and before it became our mountain boarding slope it was used for grazing and sometimes growing crops (maize, wheat, peas). It is now one of the best mountain boarding slopes in the UK (if not the world and yes of course we are a bit biased), perfect for everyone from beginners to pros. We invest a lot of our time in our slope, we listen to our riders and we try and make it challenging enough for them as well as easy enough for beginners who have never done anything like this before.
Haredown Mountain Boarding Centre is still a family run business, Farmer John’s daughter Jo is involved in running the centre and family mealtimes often turn into impromptu Haredown meetings. You will still see Farmer John most weekends with his famous pick up truck, down at the dairy (our neighbour), or enjoying a cup of tea at the centre café.
Here's more about what we believe in.
